Step 1: ensure that the food is in fact dead.

Step 2: pry open the silkworm (just past the ‘head,’ pull towards the creature’s tail) using either chopsticks or hands. You will find a light gray interior surrounding a dark, creamy network of guts. That’s the business end of the bug: delicious protein saturated tissues await the intrepid.

Step 3: suck the dark tissue out. Mmm delicious, and oddly spicy. If that fails – it probably will; put the delicacy in your mouth and start chewing.

Step 4: Continue chewing. Be sure to smile – your hosts paid good money for their entertainment. When finished, spit the shell out; act like nothing is amiss.
