you could also make the argument for collecting the data to protect against racism.  if you wanted to show, for example, that schools with majority black populations received less funding than schools with majority white populations, the data could be useful. in cases like that, the data might be used to prevent the government from performing unfair or racist state actions.  arguably, until you are sure racism is not present, you should continue to keep track of race in data collections, right?</description>
