Or ‘big deer island.’ Map here. This is where myself and my party were marooned for two days due to heavy winds. This gave ample time to admire the island’s *massive* spiders. It was the perfect setup for a horror movie – small group of Americans on a near empty island with run down tourist infrastructure. All that was missing was a man-eating Nazi-Japanese experiment sea-creature. Alas, no horror. Being stranded did however afford a lot of time to take pictures:

I didn’t end up spending much time in Dandong. Snap judgement: if you had to pick a place to live in China, you could do a lot worse.
