I wasn’t going to post this picture – there’s something not quite right about the lighting. Still, I like the idea of Beijing Hutong Toilet of the Underworld. Something to take the mind off of the real looming damnation.

Not something you see everyday (more than 100 meters in any given direction) in Beijing on an afternoon. The Olympics has indeed provided ample opportunities for horizon photographs free from pollution. These seem to make decent header images.

After visiting much of this country, I still maintain that ancient China had only one architect. Whoever he was, he found what worked and stuck with it:

It just so happened that when in Beijing, housing was provided in the middle of an old hutong (which has grossly inflated property values since white people like me will pay exorbitant sums to live there, feel impoverished, and therefore be real). Behold:
